A labor of love, the acclaimed artist's work is the main fundraiser for the tiny Salem Twp. church to which she belongs, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. With Ginette’s work, and the contributions of parishioners, the 100-plus year old church is sustained.

"Written" with wax rather than painted, the eggs are colored with subsequent layers of dyes to create the desired design. Ginette learned the craft from her mother while a young girl. She recalls giving demonstrations with her mother in various churches, using leftover candles for the wax.

Ginette’s mother, Stella Nalevanko, learned the art from her mother, Martha Hyduke, who immigrated to the United States from Ukraine. To honor her mother’s memory, Ginette writes a tiny heart on each eggs and says one Hail Mary while she is applying the wax and another when she is removing it. God bless you, Ginette!
